September Meeting Schedule - Our first meeting in September will be Wednesday, September 26th. This will be our Social Dinner and will be Pot Luck. This is a special evening as our Boys State participant for 2018 will be there to tell of his experiences. Mike Holmes will also give us a short introduction about the Boys State Program. Bring our partner and or guest as this will be a fun evening. Open bar 5pm, dinner 6pm.
Post 84 Information Booth - Our Post will be having an Information Booth at the Colfax Railroad Days and also at the Placer High School Home Football games this year. We have been successful getting out info regarding the American Legion and Post 84 with our Booth at the Auburn Airport Friday Fly Days and the Auburn Cruise Nights this year. Thanks to our Volunteers!
American Legion Phone App - I down loaded the new American Legion Mobile Phone app to my cell phone. Now no matter where I am, as long as I have an internet connection, I can check to see what is going on with the American Legion. You can get more information and see how to down load by logging onto https://www.legion.org/mobileapps.
Auburn Cruise Night - Friday night, August 10th our volunteers out at the Auburn Cruise Night were treated to some really great entertainment provided by the Auburn Big Band Ensemble. The band was located right across the street from our booth so lots of folks were attracted to our location.
We had some great volunteers Friday night, Dave George, Tim Worley, and Bob Matherly.
Volunteering to help next door at the Wreaths Across America Info booth was Kristie Cantrell, Bonnie Potter and Mike Holmes. Having our members out there getting the information to the public about the American Legion and Wreaths Across America is just one service you can volunteer for. We only have one more Auburn Cruise Night this year, September 14th. Come out and give us a hand or just stop by and say hi to your fellow American Legion members. Monty and Gretchen stopped by to say Hi!
Friday Fly Days - We participated in the last Friday Fly Days for the year August 17th. Christian Watt, the booth coordinator for the event sent us a really nice note indicating that the Auburn Airport was very glad that the American Legion Post 84 participated in every Friday Fly Day. A quote from his note to us, "This month we were even able to fundraise more than any of our previous events! I would just like to say thank you so much for helping make this last month of Friday Flydays one of the most successful ones yet!" Christian Watt.
Thanks to all our volunteers Mike Schredl, Kristie Cantrell, Peter Hidalgo, and Monty Hecker! Good job and many thanks for the hours spent introducing the American Legion Post 84!
Placer High School AL Info Booth - We have permission to set up a info table at the home games held at Placer High. First games 9/7 and 9/28. We will be sending out an Email for volunteers to help.
VA Identification Card - August 25th we held a class at the Legion Hall where we attempted to help members get signed up to receive the new Veterans Identification Card. I had gone through the process on my PC successfully but realized that for those who were not PC jocks or photo bugs, this might be a rather difficult process.
There were several Post 84 members who showed up and as you would have it, things did not go as planned. We did get the digital photo's as needed but the one thing that was missing was I needed everyone to bring his cell phone. I failed to let them know that so we didn't get the job done. In communicating with the VA on this they agreed with me that you have to have a cell phone or be at your home phone in order to receive security codes. Ok, we got that now so I'm planning to work with the folks and give it another try.
WAA Ceremony December 15th - Yes, the December 15th Wreaths Across America Ceremony is coming up! Our very own Bonnie Potter will be hosting the event where we will be laying living balsam wreaths onto our Veterans graves here at the Old and New Cemeteries. Have you sponsored a wreath yet? To do so just stop by the Hall and pick up a pamphlet which has the order form. $15 for a beautiful wreath to place on a grave site. $5 of that $15 comes back to the Post! Be a part of Auburn History, sponsor a wreath and come to the Ceremony December 15th. Deadline for wreaths is November 11th! Call me if you need more info.
Yes, it's time to start thinking about the American Legion Centennial. This is a once in a lifetime celebration, we need to be thinking about how we can make March, 2019 memorable for our Post 84 members and our community. Send me your ideas and thoughts.
