SPECIAL EVENTS

2010 Memorial Day Ceremonies

Auburn area veterans will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 31st beginning at 9 AM at the New Auburn Cemetery.  Members of the Auburn Area Honor Guard and the many veterans’ organizations from the Auburn area will join forces to commemorate the day.

The ceremony will include remarks by Place County Supervisor Jim Holmes, Auburn Mayor Bridget Powers, and City Councilman Mike Holmes.  The rendering of honors to our departed comrades will consist of a fly-over by a local CAP Squadron, release of Doves, laying of wreaths followed by a rifle salute and Taps.

Brief ceremonies with a rifle salute and Taps will be conducted at Old Auburn Cemetery at 10:00 AM, Newcastle Cemetery at 11:00 AM and at Maidu Indian Cemetery at Noon.

Memorial Day is sacred to American veterans.  We take this opportunity to honor members of our Armed Forces who have given their lives in defense of our freedoms.  We also recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by their families. The American Legion, assisted by area Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and other volunteers, will place American flags at the veterans’ graves in the Auburn area cemeteries.  (New Auburn Cemetery: 5/27, 3:30 PM) (Old Auburn Cemetery: 5/28, 9:00 AM)
