Newsletter

Auburn Post 84 has been suffering from a shortage of funds and therefore has not been able to send out bi-monthly newsletters. Starting this year your Adjutant, me (Court), will make an effort to keep our web page up to date.

Membership

Membership is slow in coming in this year, we are currently at 64.04% of our goal. We need 116 members to renew their membership in order to reach our goal of 363.

As a District, we're at the bottom of the list in Area One.  We need to work on this, find a friend and bring him/her to our meetings and get them involved.

AUBURN VETERAN'S MEMORIAL BUILDING

One of the benefits of being an Post 84 Legionnaire is that if you have a large event, Wedding, Anniversary or Birthday and need a place to hold the event. If you are a paid up member the Post will either sponsor the event (therefore it's free to you) or will arrange for you to receive up to a 50% discount for using the hall. If you need use of the bar for your planned event, and if I (Court) am available, we'll open the bar. Again utilize the contact page and give Court a call.

SEAFOOD FUND RAISER

Thank you for all your help and support! We made it through another year and though we had about 64 less ticket sales, we still made enough to continue our baseball program. We'll need to raise an additional $2,000.00 over the year to make up the difference, but we can do that.  It's now 2009, another year and we're just starting with our seafood fund raiser - looking for assistance. We'll have tickets for sale shortly and hopefully we'll do a better job this year.

ELECTION OF POST OFFICERS

We need your help in doing the job we were founded for, and that is Veterans Helping Veterans! Some of us have recycled though the chairs so many times it's hard for us to stay focused. We really need some of our 363 members to come to the meetings, if not to take an office, maybe just give us some new reasons to keep going. April is nomination month and May is elections with June being the month that we install our officers.  You don't have to be an officer, maybe you'd like to assist with some of the committee's, i.e., Baseball, Veterans Day Parade, Boys State, Scholarship Programs, and many more.

BASEBALL

Baseball has been mentioned in just about every article in this news letter. We're doing a fund raiser to support our teams.  Richard W. Townsend Post 84 supports two teams, a junior team ages ranging from 14 to 16 and a senior team with ages ranging from 16 to 19. In 2006 our Auburn Post 84 team won the California State Championship. It was a first for Northern California and hopefully not the last. Larry Prewitt has been the head coach and General Manager for about the last 10 years.  He's does an outstanding job, but with his other commitments, like working for a living, he's not able to do the coaching job. Therefore we need some men or women to step forward and volunteer to coach or assist in coaching our teams. Contact Larry or Court if you're interested in helping - Post needs someone to be Chairman.
